Elgin Council names Guevara as Vice Mayor

ELGIN — The Elgin City Council appointed Councilman Fred Guevara as the council’s new vice mayor on Tuesday.

The council voted unanimously to name Guevara to the position, said City Clerk/Treasurer Machelle Reynolds.

Guevara will replace outgoing Vice Mayor Sean Bateman, who currently represents Ward 4 on the council, Reynolds said. Bateman is not seeking re-election this year.

Bateman’s successor will take office in early April, following the April 4 municipal election.
